Japadogs

Tempura Japadog 400

Ever since I saw these Japanese-influenced gourmet hot dogs (Japadogs) in a news clip at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, I had a strong to urge to try one the first chance I got.  It's 3 years later, and I finally came across a restaurant in Toronto that served it.  The restaurant is call Aji Sai Plus Resto Lounge on Yonge St.  We noticed this place while looking for a place to have lunch.  This was a no-brainer....at least for me.

I had the Tempura Shrimp Japadog (see top photo).  It had tempura shrimp, avocado, fish roe, lettuce and seaweed.  I started with the Kimchi Beef fries.  This was an upgrade to my special.  It tasted great with the taste of Kimchi but not overpowering.  The Tempura Shrimp Japadog was interesting.  The flavours were good.  However, I could pass on the hot dog itself.

My younger daughter had the BBQ Beef Japadog (see below).  It was dressed with beef, onion and seaweed.  This was the tastiest of the 3 that we tried.

My older daughter had the Spicy Salmon Japadog (see below).  She absolutely loves Spicy Salmon roll.s  It was dressed with spicy salmon, cucumber, onion, mayo, milkfish and seaweed.  The taste was good but it was way too spicy.  She barely ate much of it.

Now that I was able to eat 3 different Japadogs, I must say I no longer have any desire to try another.  I think I will stick to just eating my hot dogs separate from my sushi/sashimi.  At least, that's one more off my bucket list!
