Kalbi Pork Tenderloin

Kalbi Pork Tenderloin 400

Our entire family love Kalbi (Korean BBQ beef short ribs).  Sorry but this is not a recipe for Kalbi.  Instead I thought I would make a pork tenderloin using a Kalbi marinade.  I decided on using the marinade from this Korean Kalbi Beef Ribs recipe on the Make it Ontario Beef.

It turned out really well.  The kids really loved the flavour and it has already become a favourite for them whenever pork tenderloin is on the menu.

Ingredients:
2 pork tenderloins
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup sweet rice wine
1 onion, minced
1 Asian pear, finely chopped
1 1/4 cup minced garlic
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1/4 teaspoon cracked black pepper
1/4 cup thinly sliced green onion (if desired)

Directions:
1) Wash and clean the tenderloins, and pat dry.
2) In bowl, whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, water, rice wine, onion, pear, garlic, sesame oil and pepper.  Marinate pork tenderloins for at least 3 hours. If placed in a dish, you may need to turnover.
3) Preheat oven to 350F.
4) Heat one tablespoon oil over moderately high heat in a skillet or frying pan. Brown pork tenderloins for about 4 minutes.  If skillet/frying pan is not oven-proof, transfer to a baking dish along with the marinade.
5) Roast pork tenderloins until the thickest part of the tenderloin registers 135F.
6) Let the tenderloins rest for at least 10 minutes before carving.
7) In a saucepan, cook the remaining marinade to use as a sauce.
